Watercolor on Paper
2002
15" x 11"
$500

I did this painting while visiting Banff in early spring.  I was enrolled in a class and had an assignment, which was to use a variety of techniques to create an abstract painting.  Then using two L-shaped pieces of paper as a frame, move around the painting and pick out smaller compositions to then transform into a full-sized painting.  When my frame came across this composition, it made me think of the northern lights, which I had been hearing a lot about on my trip to Canada.  I was also inspired by an artist I saw there who engraved tiny images inspired by Cree petroglyphs on his jewelry, and I added some of these images into my painting.
