Still lifes, to me, are a celebration of the small pleasures of life: the visual beauty of sensual shapes and colors of bottles, fruits, vegetables, linens, flowers, and also what they evoke in the other senses, such as taste and smell, too! I set up this elaborate spread in my studio to paint from. When I shop for produce, I pick the fruits and vegetables with the most brilliant color or best aesthetic value, just in case I get the opportunity to paint them before eating or cooking with them.
