This painting was done on location in Rabbit Valley, Colorado, on a Memorial Day mountain biking trip to Fruita. The cacti were all in full bloom, and I had never seen such abundance of delicacy and color before! On the last day of the trip I fell off my bike and broke my right arm, and wasn't able to paint for a month or so afterward. When my arm had healed, I put the finishing touches of soft pastel on the painting.
